Adult Sunday School and Study Group
Christian Education ministries at Colesville United Methodist Church are real, relevant and relational. We focus on spiritual formation and growth for new and mature believers of all ages. Our goal is to change lives with the clear and unapologetic teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ incorporating the Wesleyan model of tradition, reason and experience. We strive to move beyond routine programs that simply impart information, to reach real people who are going through real life challenges with the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We invite all persons to know and experience God through Jesus Christ, to claim and live God's promises and, to grow and serve as Christian disciples.
The following classes are offered:
Elijah: Lessons for Times of Uncertainty - Classroom
Join the FaithWalkers in an 8-week study of Elijah, a man raised up by God in a time of national conflict, spiritual and moral degeneracy, and idol worship. Moral order and foundational absolutes were being destroyed. Ahab, the king, did more evil in the eyes of God than all of his predecessors, and put his selfish desires ahead of those of God or of the people. Jezebel, his wife, directed prophets of the Lord to be hunted down and killed in an attempt to stamp out worship of God. Prophets of Baal were supported at taxpayer expense. Explore how during times of uncertainty and insecurity we, too, can tap into what God gave to Elijah, and anchored to an unchanging, powerful God, live courageously and confidently.
Living the Disciple Lifestyle - Parlor
New Study of the Parables - Jesus’ parables help us gain a new understanding of God’s love. His stories challenge us to assess our values and how we live out our values. This study will run on 6 consecutive Thursdays beginning January 23rd, 7:30PM in Room 25. Recommended reading – “Favorite Parables from the Bible” by Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen, available at Target, Cokesbury Amazon for $6 to $10. Contact the church office to sign up.
In February 2020 a new class will begin: “Questions Jesus Asks of You”. Yes, Jesus has questions for each of us. Come learn what He asks us and why His questions are relevant today.
