Caring For Our Community

Colesville United Methodist Church (CUMC) provides lunches and dinners for 35-38 women at the Women’s Center each year in October through the Outreach and Missions (O&M) Ministry.

The Sunday School also participated in this year’s program by preparing delicious breakfast sandwiches, which were given to the ladies who went out to work.

Additional food items and supplies were also delivered to the Center. This included coffee, coffee creamer, bottled water, juices, canned tuna and chicken, kitchen towels, facial tissues, napkins, Lysol wipes, and shelf stable snacks.

Hungry Neighbors Thanksgiving Baskets 2023

Through partnerships with local schools, CUMC provided Thanksgiving meals (baskets) to 70  students and their families in 2023.  The baskets consisted of donated non-perishable food, turkeys, chickens, and a $25 Giant gift card.  CUMC received an emergency request to help two families who experienced recent hardships and needed help with meals.   Fortunately, CUMC  was able to solicit the help from residents outside of CUMC who were able to donate the additional baskets.

In 2022, CUMC provided a total of 57 baskets (with $25.00 Giant Gift Card).

C4 Clothes Closet

C-4 (Colesville Council of Community Organizations) is an interfaith group founded in 1968 to serve the needs of the Colesville Community.  C-4 consists of the Clothes Closet, the Baby Closet, the Holiday Toy Closet, and the School Supply Program.  The Clothes Closet was started in the late 60s in our Anderson Hall. It is now housed in the old Colesville Elementary School on New Hampshire Avenue.  It is the largest arm of C-4 and, in a typical year, serves over 2000 Montgomery County residents and their families by providing free clothing, household essentials, and linens.  An Outreach and Missions Committee member has served as CUMC’s representative for approximately 40 years.

The C-4 Clothes Closet is in great need of boys clothing size 3T up to preteens as well as linens, mainly sheets and towels. These items can be dropped off in two sheds at the old Colesville Elementary School on New Hampshire Ave.

C-4 Christmas Toy Drive

Colesville provides toys for the C-4 Christmas drive each year.  Colesville helped make the Christmas toy drive at C-4 a huge success in 2023.  Colesville’s generosity helped serve over 900 children and added to the relief of many grateful parents. Everyone was treated with respect and was allowed to choose the toys  wanted in a loving atmosphere.

In 2022, Colesville provided toys for girls and boys between the ages of 1 and 12, including some of the following suggested items:  Pre- school toys of any kind, dolls, Barbie Brats, Monster High, soccer balls, basketballs, other sporting equipment, games, trucks, cars, dress-up kits, jewelry and make-up appropriate for pre- teen girls, mini skate boards, etc.

Winter Children’s Coat Drive 2024

The Outreach & Missions Ministry received another overwhelming request for 138 coats this year from one of our Partner schools alone.  It was a shocking request but not a surprise.  We have seen the rise in need throughout our programs last year.  To God be the Glory, and our faithful committee’s prayers we were blessed to have donated 36 warm coats to the children at neighboring schools.

This year superseded prior years in all our program areas.  The evidence of the growth in numbers shows the need within our community.  Without continued prayers and the CUMC family our programs success would not have been possible.  We continue to pray for God’s grace, and the support for food & financial contributions and donations.

Operation Christmas Child

Glory to God for the 64 packed full shoeboxes donated to Operation Christmas Child (OCC) mission project in 2023!!!  Please continue to pray for the children who receive the shoeboxes to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior and to share the Gospel with their family & others so the Kingdom of God will expand.

CUMC’s Outreach & Missions thanks all who prayed for & provided financial support and/or sponsored a shoebox (es) thru Operation Christmas Child (OCC) in 2022.   CUMC provided 37 filled up & prayed over shoeboxes!!!
